Mars Area School District will hold its 2019-2020 Geography Bee Final Round Qualifier at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at Mars Area Centennial School.
Ten student finalists (Grades 5-8) will compete by answering questions related to the physical and cultural geography of both the United States and the world. Finalists are eighth-graders Joseph Compton, Nameer Dheen, Nicholas Ferrari, Ava Geary, Mitchell Kulfan, Tyler Raabe, Gabrianna Salvini, Evan Szafranski and Ethan Vitale; seventh-grader Luke Hagen; and sixth-graders Julian Coquelet and Colton Rearick.
The winner will complete a written exam that will be mailed to the Pennsylvania State Geography Bee, which will notify the student as to whether he/she has qualified for the state contest. The state winner will then advance to the National Geography Bee competition, to be held in Spring 2020 at The National Geographic Society headquarters (Washington, D.C.).
