Mars Area Centennial School has named the winners of the school’s 2019 Science Fair, held Feb. 28.
Sixth-grader Kendall Bruns earned the Isaac Newton Award for Most Scientific Project for her project, “Methane Madness;” and fifth-grader Colby Kohnen received the Galileo Award for Most Creative Topic for “Garbage Barges — Turning Trash into Transportation.” Fifth-graders Victoria Caringola and Addison Pangonis received the Louis Pasteur Award for Catchiest Title for “Munch Crickets Munch.”
Fifth-graders Grace McMichael and Kiara Van Wyk received the Marie Curie Award for Best Oral Presentation for their project, “Crystal Craze.” Sixth-graders Sarah Maloney and Victoria Symchak received the Albert Einstein Award for Best Overall Project for “Ice Cream Magic”
Other science fair participants were sixth-graders Caleb Halenda, Aaron Mitchell, and Susanna Tomkovicz; and fifth-graders Sydney Denk, Faris Elzant and Maxwell McKee, Katie Hacket and Madison Hershman, Noah Middleton, Paige Nicholson and Gloria Ussack, Riana Palm, and Carter Snyder.
Mars Area Elementary PTO sponsors the annual event is to stimulate imagination and independent thinking; increase students’ knowledge in a variety of scientific areas; teach the use of the scientific process; train students in organization and major task completion; and provide an opportunity to enjoy science.
