Collaborative Art Project Designed to Promote Kindness

Members of Mars Area Centennial School’s JAM Club have begun work on a collaborative art project to promotes kindness throughout Mars Area School District and its schools.

During the last few months, the club has been collecting bottle caps and jar lids that are being used to create multi-color murals with positive messages and unique designs.

The students are starting the project with several smaller murals that will be displayed in the school and in other District buildings, says Katie Frye, art teacher and JAM Club co-sponsor along with Jennifer Bradel, sixth grade teacher; Brittnee Madigan, fifth grade teacher; and, Angela McCoy, guidance counselor. The students will soon begin work on a larger mural, once enough caps/lids are collected.

BOTTLE CAPS/JAR LIDS NEEDED — The JAM Club is seeking donations of washed and cleaned caps/lids. Donations may be dropped off at the main office of any Mars Area elementary buidling during school hours, Monday through Friday. Caps/lids may include those from water bottles, baby food containers, food jars, etc.

Mars Area Centennial School’s JAM Club, formerly the school’s FOR (Friends of Rachel) Club, is a student-driven group that encourages kindness, creativity, compassion and empathy both in the school and the community. The club is modeled after the Avonworth Primary Center JAM Club, which empowers students to make a difference through positive activities, fundraisers, and partnerships with charitable organizations.

The Avonworth JAM Club continues to spread its message of kindness through various activities including the sales of its trademarked #bethekindkid t-shirts, which have been provided free of charge to each Mars Area student (Grades K-6) through a donation from Rhoads Orthodontic Specialist. Mars Area School District joins the JAM Club in encouraging that the shirts be worn each Wednesday (#wearthemwednesdays) as a reminder to others to do the right thing, to be the nice kid, and to be the kind kid.
