MACS Science Fair Winners Announced

Mars Area Centennial School has named the winners of the school’s 2020 Science Fair, held Feb. 26

Fifth-graders Gia Christafano and Nova Elder earned the Isaac Newton Award for Most Scientific Project for her project, “Am I Stuck on You?” Fifth-grader Sophia Gourash received the Galileo Award for Most Creative Topic for “Water or Energy — How About Both?”

Fifth-graders Ava Moravek and Claire Norris received the Louis Pasteur Award for Catchiest Title for “Delicious Density.” Fifth-grader Marin Raible received the Marie Curie Award for Best Oral Presentation for “Gum or No Gum;” and fifth-grader Sophia Furman received the Albert Einstein Award for Best Overall Project for “Penny vs. Liquid.”

Other science fair participants were sixth-graders Haven Briscoe-Radway and Amaya Davis, Victoria Caringola and Addison Pangonis, Sydney Denk and Tessa Wicker, Logan Lutzic and Lenny Splane, Phillip Moreno, and Riana Palm; and fifth-graders Mia Battilana, Luke Bowser and Philip Veneziano, Tatem Empey, Madyson Etoll, Edyn Giammatteo and Mya Spadafore, Anya Ignatuk and Grace Nam, and Jenna Smith.

Representatives of PPG Industries served as judges for this year’s event. Mars Area Elementary PTO sponsors the annual science fair, the purpose of which is to stimulate imagination and independent thinking; increase students’ knowledge in a variety of scientific areas; teach the use of the scientific process; train students in organization and major task completion; and provide an opportunity to enjoy science.
