Several Mars Area Centennial School students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) Equations academic competition, held Feb. 16 at Slippery Rock University.
Sixth-graders Preston Musser and Asher Pesanka; and fifth-graders Olivia Airgood, Blake Brewer, Madison Cawley, Grant Dunn, Avery Harrison, Meredith Lindsay, Mateus Morgueta, Andrew Sherwin and Luka Zatchey competed in the event's Elementary Division.
As part of the Equations event, students must employ their mathematical knowledge, along with complex problem-solving skills, as attempt to solve equations using the six basic mathematical operations. The students are hen introduced to concepts such as factorials, greatest common factor, least common multiple, averaging, fractions, negative numbers, decimals, and percentages.
The competition, open to students in Grade 4-12, brought together 49 students from Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. For more information, visit https://www.agloa.org/equations/.
