Fifth-graders Plan, Build Wearable Footwear Mars Area Centennial School fifth-graders are completing a  challenge to design and build wearable footwear using only cardboard, paper and tape.

 

In their STEAM (Science Techonology Engineering Art Mathematics) classes, the students, working in groups, used the Engineering by Design process to create blueprints for shoes, boots, sandals, etc. The fifth-graders then set to work, gathering materials and building and decorating their designs.

 

Upon completing their footwear, each group then chose a member to wear and model their cardboard shoe for the rest of the class. The fifth-graders then discussed the design process as well as what they found challenging or what they might have done differently.
