The Sixth Grade Mars Gold Girls Youth Basketball Team earned first place in the 6B Division at the Chartiers-Valley Boys Basketball Boosters Girls Youth Tournament, held Jan. 12-15.

With its 21-18 win over St. Gregory in the final game, the Mars Gold Team was named tournament champions and qualified for the Pennsylvania Middle School Girls Basketball Championships, to be held March 17-19 in State College, Pa.

The Mars Gold Team went undefeated (5-0) in the tournament, triumphing over Canon McMillan 22-13 in the semifinal round; Bethel Park 32-6 in the first round; and Mt. Lebanon 21-11 and South Fayette White 29-5 in the preliminary rounds.

Team members include Mars Area Centennial School sixth-graders Morgan Astarb, Addison Jacoby, Meredith Lindsay, Alaina McCurdy, Danielle Mollica, Mackenzie Powell, Shea Radford, Isabella Schuller and Karmella Vigliotti.
