Students at Mars Area Centennial School are keeping active as part of a before-school Morning Fitness program.
The program, offered one day a week for fifth-graders (Day 2) and sixth-graders (Day 4), gives students a chance to practice their jump rope, hula hoop and stilt-walking skills; to play Spikeball or other games; to try out the school’s horizontal climbing wall; to get in some walking or running; and more.
“The kids like to be active first thing in the morning,” says Sara Coon, health and physical education teacher, noting that each session focuses on a different skill set. In addition, the program gives students an opportunity to socialize and see their friends before the start of the school day.
The Morning Fitness program is open all Mars Area Centennial School students who wish to participate. No sign-ups are required.
