Sixth-graders Discuss How to Spread Kindness Online

Mars Area Centennial School sixth-graders are discussing ways to spread kindness online and elsewhere as part of a Digital Citizenship Unit in their Library/Media Studies classes.

To kick off the lesson, the students talked about remaining positive toward others when online and using social media. The sixth-graders then watched the Life Vest Inside video, “The Kindness Boomerang” (see below), which follows a path of kindness as it travels from one individual to the next.

Sixth-graders then decorated bookmarks with inspirational quotes, messages of kindness, pictures, and “#bethekindkid,” then hid the bookmarks inside random library books. The student, who find the bookmark, can choose to use it, hide it in another book, or keep it to hang in his/her locker.
