Three Mars Area Centennial School students were selected for Judges’ Choice awards for their submissions in the Phipps Conservatory Fairchild Challenge.
As part of the Habitat Handbooks challenge, fifth-graders Ziqian Feng, Caroline Kazanov and Kendall Leonard created handbooks about Dumbo Octopuses, Hummingbird and Lions, respectively.
The challenge asked students to select an animal and to create a comprehensive “survival guide” booklet detailing the importance of the animal’s physical features; how its diet relates to its feeding habits and strategies in nature; its home; and, how the animal contributes to the balance of its habitat in its role as predator or prey.
