Mars Area Centennial School sixth-graders in Melinda Badger’s Advanced Pre-Algebra class put their geometry skills to the test as they worked to complete a “Design a Castle” activity.
The project asked the students to use polyhedrons and other geometric solids to design and build a scale model of a castle. The students also needed to calculate the surface area and volume of all of the shapes that they used.
Earlier this week, members of the sixth grade teaching staff voted on their favorite, most imaginative project.
The group of sixth-graders Alexandra Franck, Natalie Frengel, Everly Henderson and Jackie Li earned first place for their “Flourishing Chateau.” The group of sixth-graders Clair Armburger, Sophia Barbeau, Emma Johnston, Avery Polito and Mary Rhenish received an honorable mention for their “Cinderfella’s Dream Castle.”
