To conclude their Poetry Unit and to celebrate Taylor Swift’s new album drop, fifth-graders in Debra Kravets’s class at Mars Area Centennial School held a “Tortured Poets Department Day” on April 19.

 

To prepare for the activity, Kravets, with some help from Mars Area High School junior Maggie Lyker, redecorated her classroom with a Taylor Swift theme and a nod to famous poets throughout history.

 

During the day, students were asked complete packets on several famous poets including Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes and William Shakespeare.

 

With music from Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, playing in the background, the students could also make friendship bracelets, decorate their school supplies with poetry- and Taylor Swift- themed stickers, play chess, or piece together puzzles.
