Activities Offer Inside Look at Space Industry Careers

Several Mars Area Centennial School sixth-graders joined in a mission to the Moon at the Moonshot Museum, located at Astrobotic Technology Inc. in Pittsburgh.

To begin, a museum navigator offered a mission briefing as well as an inside look at the design, testing and construction of actual spacecraft. The students then rotated through digitally driven STEAM activities — designing a next generation lunar rover, mapping the Moon for resources, creating a mission patch, forming a cosmic city council, and voting on a lunar charter to guide their base — all of which explored emerging space industry careers.

The students also joined in question and answer session and watch engineers and technicians work on the Astrobotic Griffin-1 Lunar Lander, which is scheduled to be sent to the Moon next year.
