Several Mars Area School District students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) LinguiSHTIK academic competition, held Dec. 18 at Slippery Rock University.
In the Grades 3-4 Division, fourth-graders Kendall Fonzi and Everly Northrop went undefeated. Additionally, the team of fourth-graders Lukas Fecich, Jessica Li, Everly Northrop, Charlie Xuan and Hannah Ziegler placed third out of 27 teams.
In the Grades 5-6 Division, sixth-graders Reese Carrel, Ellie Kurnocik and Hannah Nam went undefeated. Additionally, the team of sixth-graders Ellie Kurnocik, Hannah Nam, Seth Pedicone, Kristin Sadhu and Alison White took seventh place out of 54 teams.
LinguiSHTIK, which challenges students in grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills, asks players to compose sentences with proper grammar application and richer vocabulary. The competition, open to students in Grade 4-12, brings together students from schools Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties through Midwestern Intermediate IV.
