Centennial School Chess Club Going Strong

Mars Area Centennial School’s Chess Club is in its third year at the school and is growing in popularity.

“We have great attendance this year and the library has been full,” says Chris Churilla, club advisor.

The club, which meets before school in the library, is open to both fifth- and sixth-graders. Students can gather to challenge each other to a game or to watch others play.

The Chess Club was founded by Teagan Thomas, now an eighth-grader at Mars Area Middle School, who was “inspired” to get into chess after watching chess competitions on YouTube and wanted to share his love for the game with his classmates.
