Sixth-grader’s Idea Supplements Awareness Event

In commemoration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Mars Area School District asked its students (Grades K-2) and staff members to wear bright, colorful or mismatched socks on Oct. 21 to show support for those with Down Syndrome and to raise awareness about the genetic condition.

Upon hearing about the activity, Mars Area Centennial School sixth-grader Jack Clark took the activity a step further, encouraging his fellow students to decorate and cut out paper socks to decorate their lockers.

Clark began the project by coloring a sock and affixing it to his locker. On Oct. 21, colorful paper socks could be found on every locker in the school’s sixth grade hallway.
