This message is to inform you that, earlier today (Monday, Feb. 9), a non-bladed balisong (butterfly) trainer was found in a student’s backpack at Mars Area Centennial School.

Upon identification, the item was immediately confiscated and this matter will be addressed in accordance with District policies and procedures. We ask that you note that, while the trainer does not contain a sharpened blade, the item is considered to be a replica of a weapon and is, therefore, prohibited under District policy. At no time is a student permitted to be in possession of a weapon or any look-alike item on school grounds.

Please note that at no time, was there a threat to the health and safety of the student body and/or staff members at Mars Area Centennial School or in any other District buildings and the education process is continuing as normal.
