MACS Students Join in 'PBIS Day' Activities

Students at Mars Area Centennial School joined in various activities and lessons, all centered around “The Mars Way” during a “PBIS Day” event on Oct. 7.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) Team members spoke with fifth- and sixth-graders, reminding them about “The Mars Way” — Make good choices, Always be kind, be Ready to learn, and to Stay safe.

In their English/Language Arts classes, students designed personal “Mars Mission” patches, similar to those created by NASA astronauts for space missions. The students were asked to design a patch featuring words, symbols and pictures that reflected their individual goals and The Mars Way.

In their mathematics classes, the students completed a graphing activity, marking and connecting coordinate points to create an image of the Fightin’ Planets mascot. Students could also solve math problems to decode a “Mars Way’ cryptogram.

Fifth- and sixth-graders also worked together in their Science and Social Studies classes to create a collaborative class poster featuring a positive message. Each student decorated a piece of the poster, which, once completed, will be assembled and displayed in the school.

Mars Area Centennial School students are rewarded for going above and beyond. Students, who exemplify positive behavior, may receive Centennial Cash, which can be turned in for a chance to win prizes and other awards.
