Two Mars Area students were named winners in the 2018 South Carolina Society of Mayflower Descendants Scholarship Essay Contest.

 

Freshman Morgan Weitzell took first place with her essay, “Peace in Plymouth” in the Middle School Essay competition. Sixth-grader Dylan Weitzell received first place for his essay, “Toys and Games on the Mayflower,” in the Elementary Essay competition.

 

Both students will be presented with a $500 prize and a certificate of achievement and will be recognized at the Mayflower Compact Day luncheon in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday, Nov. 17. All winning essays will also be published in the 2018 Fall Edition of the society’s South Carolina chapter newsletter, the Palmetto Log.
